Association for Borderlands Studies 2008: Renew or Join Today

Dear Sir or Madam,

We would like to express our sincere thanks if you have recently joined the Association for Borderlands Studies (ABS) or renewed your membership for 2008. Please feel free to pass this notice on to colleagues who might also be interested in joining.

If you have not yet joined or renewed your ABS membership for 2008, we are pleased to remind you of some of the benefits of membership.

The Association for Borderlands Studies is the leading international scholarly association dedicated exclusively to the systematic interchange of ideas and information relating to international border areas. Founded in 1976 the Association has expanded its membership around the world. It encompasses an interdisciplinary membership of scholars at more than one hundred academic, governmental institutions, and NGOs representing the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe.

If you are a social scientist, a government official or NGO employee with an interest in borders, boundaries, frontiers and borderland studies, you may apply for membership in the Association. The Association publishes the Journal of Borderlands Studies (JBS), which presents leading research on border issues, and organizes the ABS annual meeting which provides a scholarly forum for a wide range of topics on border regions around the world. We are pleased to advise that in 2008, JBS will publish a new third issue, increasing the total number of JBS issues you will receive as part of your membership from two to three.

Membership follows the calendar year (January to December). Membership receipts will be provided by email. Membership fees may be paid online with a major credit card and are collected in Canadian dollars. This payment will then be converted to the currency of the credit card. Fees are as follows: $50 for regular memberships, $25 for student memberships, and $50 for library memberships. If you are unable to pay by credit card, you may send a cheque or bank draft in Canadian or US dollars payable to the University of Victoria. The membership fee remains the same regardless of the currency chosen. Both currencies will be treated at par for 2008.

To renew or join:

This process will take you about 3-5 minutes. I timed myself when I renewed my membership - it is easy and simple.

ABS Executive Secretary
